ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jason Andrew Hite began his career on his mother's kitchen table at the age of 4 in Akron, Ohio. "Drawing, painting and sculpture have always been my vice. Anything I can get my hands on is cannon fodder for another art piece!", Jason always says. At age 18, Jason obtained a full-tuition scholarship to the Art institute of Pittsburgh where he studied industrial design and completed his Associates Degree in 1998. His fascination with science-fiction fantasy, and film making, lead him to the movie industry in Los Angeles immediately after he graduated. After a short term makeup effects career, Jason became a product designer working for numerous companies like Hasbro, Marvel, and Disney. Recently, Jason began sculpting for and collaborating with artist and writer Clive Barker. "The hour is late, I can feel the dull listlessness of my body begging for rest and relaxation but once again my mind is blazing. A confidence is building within me I did not have before. Night after night I lay in bed unable to switch off my mind. The dark half of me relishes the quiet stillness of the dark room I lay in. The tranquil blackness allows me to focuses on the work that lay ahead of me with the precision of a surgeon about to perform a procedure repeated countless times. I cut into my work with a razor sharp scalpel, unleashing countless ideas and dreams that swim and flow into me like fire. I physically tangle myself in the sheets as instructions from somewhere deep within me impregnate my thoughts. My heart races, thumping at a rhythm that both excites and terrifies me. Images of what I must do repeat and repeat until I am driven to this chair I sit upon. My fingers work feverishly to type out the instructions in my head in an attempt to purge the wicked possession I suffer from. Sometimes after I write-it-out, I can sleep. When the light of day comes I revert to semi consciousness. The day is carried out like an obedient drone slaving for the queen. I collect the tools and supplies I need, summon up my skills as an artist and set upon the daunting instructions given to me from within. This is how I create the sculptures and characters I feel most fond of."Jason describes how he works in the following paragraph; . ![]() Jason Hite and friend Robert Tomlin in Mala-Kai Prosthetic makeup.
